First of all, how are you and your family doing in these COVID-19 times?
Michael Prazian: Thank you, everything is okay; as everyone else, we have to be careful.
Tell us about you, your career, and how you founded MKD Consulting.
Michael Prazian: After defending my Ph.D. thesis many years ago(a simulation of complex systems, engineering, and economics), I made a U- turn to the investment business and, then, to consulting. There were no reasons to complain.
How does MKD Consulting innovate?
Michael Prazian: Since 2015 we have been going international. A ‘try and test’ method. In the result today, we can separate ‘the wheat from the chaff’ up-front.
How the coronavirus pandemic affects your business, and how are you coping?
Michael Prazian: Indeed, COVID has an impact on us, but it works for the better eventually. For instance, in 2020, a promising project with an A-class company (in retail) was postponed. It allowed us to reconsider the place where we are standing and find options (SDGs, UN) that more fit our values.
Did you have to make difficult choices, and what are the lessons learned?
Michael Prazian: Yes, indeed. The main lessons: hone your skill-set, learn new things, follow your inner instinct.
What specific tools, software, and management skills are you using to navigate this crisis?
Michael Prazian: Nothing new: on-line (Zoom, Signal, Miro, LnD, Telegram). Consulting is a combination of an experience (as you know: a brain, grey hairs, or procedural approaches) and a relationship. Our style is to be Farmers, not hunters in terms of relations. It works for our clients and us eventually.
Who are your competitors? And how do you plan to stay in the game?
Michael Prazian: ‘Achievers’ with the highest level of education and energy are our competitors. We love it. Creativity, resilience, and growing relations with our partners and selected clients, in the long run, these are our way to stay in the game.
Your final thoughts?
Michael Prazian: The following are my thoughts.
- Do, what you have to do and come what may.
- A new context gives fantastic opportunities.
- Don’t forget about mindfulness!
